Trade Unions

A trade union, also called labor union, is an organization of workers with a common goal, as better working conditions. The union leaders negotiate with the employers; their negotiations usually are around topics as work rules, salaries, workplace safety, between others.

Trade Unions were born in England and during the Industrial Revolution trade unions were adopted by other European countries. In 1973 it was created The European Trade Union Confederation. Its main goal was to promote the interests of the workers in Europe and to represent them in the E.U institutions.

With the time this trade unions have gain more power, because now days they have the support of political power and also a large economic power, and thanks to this they can help the workers so their rights would be respected as accorded.

The role of the trade unions in Colombia:
I think that in Colombia this unions do not work as good as they work in the E.U. because those unions don’t have much attention sometimes and their work is not as effective, and by other hand in Colombia sometimes those who represent the workers in those unions are not very honest and even sometimes have connections with guerrilla groups, and at the end they have more interests first than the well being of the workers, such as money.
